The Kapiti Food Fair
Celebrates the Cultural Diversity of Kapiti and the abundance of quality produce that makes the area Wellington's food basket.
5 December 2009 from 10 am to 3pm
Whitireia Community Polytechnic Kapiti Campus
Lindale Exit, State Highway 1, Paraparaumu.
Entry to the Kapiti Food Fair is free, but the organisers invite attendees to donate a non-perishable food item for the Kapiti Food Bank. Collection points will be located at the entrance to the Fair.
2008 saw the inaugural Kapiti Food Fair. Over 5000 visitors will attest to the gastronomic success of the day. We will showcase the wide array of quality Kapiti produce: Award winning Ohau Gravels Wines, Kapiti Olive Oils, boutique beers and wines, artisan bread, cheese, local and international delicacies, organic and natural honey products and more. This year we expect double the number of exhibitors and visitors.
Kapiti is a jealously guarded secret mecca of fine dining and produce. We intend to divulge a few of these close kept secrets at the Kapiti Food Fair.
Cooking demonstrations by professional chefs will take centre stage in the degustation kitchen with experienced local chefs sharing their knowledge with Food Fair visitors.
For the first time ever, Kapiti chefs will be collaborating to produce a menu de table for the First Fabulous Feast. The organisers intend this to become an annual event at the Kapiti Food Fair. The proceeds will go to local charitable causes.
Celebrity Chef Martin Bosley has joined with the fair organisers to create this unique charity event, creatively taking the Fabulous Feast to a new level.
The Fabulous Feast 2009 will benefit, amongst others, the trust created for the family of the late Frank van Kampen, beloved school teacher of Waikanae, who lost his life tragically while cycling home in September. This year's Fabulous Feast is dedicated to Frank.
The BeerBoys and WineWizards , who introduced Namibian and South African Beer and Cider to Kapiti last year, will again bring a cornucopia of International Beer and Wine to the Festival. They will also present beer and wine tasting and appreciation workshops run by experts in the field of Malt and Wine.
The BeerBoys Beer Appreciation workshops will be conducted by beer writer Neil Miller. This will comprise tastings and commentry on top award winning NZ Boutique Beers.
The Wine Wizards workshops are to be presented by Ex Tall Black, travel and wine writer John Saker.
